I haven’t yet reviewed Yorkshire Tea. I don’t really know what to say about it. Yorkshire Tea is the benchmark by which I measure other teas, I choose Yorkshire Tea because it is by far the best regular tea there is, and I have yet to taste any tea that is better.

Yorkshire Tea is what tea really should be. The colour is perfect, the smell is fantastic, the taste is strong and rich, without being bitter or too busy. Its rich, yet crisp and clean, and refreshing, not heavy like many premium teas can seem.

Yorkshire Tea is truely the pinacle of tea blending. The taste fills your mouth as if the flavour and the warmth were the same thing.

The lack of room to move means the tea is incredibly weak, and is very easy to let stew. The undertone of cardboard from the inevitability of pulling the tag in with the water lends this tea the authentic greasy spoon taste.

Salling Clicker is by far the best piece of software I have ever had the pleasure of using. A Bit of a bold statement but I demand you download the demo and try it for yourself (if you have bluetooth that is).
Salling Clicker uses your bluetooth mobile phone to control almost anything you want on your computer, and it is compatable with a massive number of handsets.
Clicker allows you to remotely control absolutley everything you could ever want to on your mac or PC. exelent if, like me, you have a computer you use as a hifi/tv etc.

I have the programme running on two machines.
On my Mac Mini I have Clicker set to control iTunes (it controls music, shared music, playlists, audiobooks, podcasts, videos etc.) EyeTV (play recordings, control live TV etc.) DVD Player, VLC and Quicktime. Clicker also comes with a whole load of system commands allowing you to control volume/ballance of audio, sleep/shutdown computer, zoom in/out, and even use your mobile as a mouse.
On my Powerbook I use my mobile to read my email from another room, or catch up on the news from NetNewsWire. Saving those WAP pennies, or even more important those couple of steps to my computer.

Clicker comes ready loaded with remotes for several widely used aplications that allow you to control many of their basic functions, but they really distinguish themselves from any other remote with the display.

Salling Clicker displaysall the basic song data it can from iTunes, not just the track name, artist and album, but the progress, rating, iTunes status, and even the album art in a friendly iPod style display. Great for saving display power if you are using it for nothing more than listening to music.
All the commands are apple scrpit bassed, so if there is something you want to do that isn’t included, just make a macro, or download one someone else has made from the Salling website or forums. There is even a remote control for Logic.

Combining the power of apple script with bluetooth makes the posibilities for expansion on Salling Clicker virtually endless, I’d love to see more intigration with the internet, such as the plugin allowing which automatically looks up unknown callers in the Yellow Pages.

A little more integration with the phone features would also be nice, such as a transfer of data without having to exit the applet. However this is due to technical restrictions on the more ‘budget’ handsets and greater phone integration is available on some models.

The only problem I have with Salling Clicker would be the ammount of battery power it eats up from your mobile through running Java and Bluetooth constantly, but unless you use it constantly for a long period of time this shouldn’t really be a problem. If you are planning to use it in this way, just plug in your phone.

I’m very sorry to have to say that there will be no Summer Picnic in 2007. The whole of the Picnic Posse has much more important things to worry themselves with this year. Personally this is a real shame as this would be the 5th picnic which was always my aim. Only time will tell wether the picnic will be back better than ever in 2008, or if it will dissapear for good.

If you don’t already know, there is also no Ponce in the Park this year, so I’m told.

In the mean time The Picnic would recomend Eve Fest, 22nd July at the Blue Dog.
Eve Fest is some old school friends of mine who stole my idea, anyway, good luck to them.

Lets hope music in Derby picks up soon.

This box of PG Tips Special Brew was one of many filling a reduced shelf in my local Tesco. From the start it doesn’t have all that much going for it.

1. There is a lot of it on the reduced shelf.
2. Its name is reminiscent of tramps favorite, Carlsberg Special Brew.
3. Its PG Tips.

But in the interests of fairness I gave it a try.

The wierdest thing about it is the strange colour. Its almost a yellowy gold colour, the same colour as the box, a colour that tea normally only turns if your milk is off. Not that far off from Carlberg Special Brew infact. The colour of this tea really put me off trying it at first and I had to take a few sips to make sure that it tasted ok. Several cups later I concluded that the tea was meant to be that colour.

Despite what the box would have you believe, the taste is nothing special, but, it is good. This is altogether a ‘nice’ tea. After a box of the stuff I couldn’t really come up with much more of a conclusion than that. Its ‘nice’. The main benefit of Special Brew is that its better than standard PG Tips, which quite frankly is a piece of shit, so that doesn’t say too much.

Next week I will be reviewing PG Tips White Lightning.

PG Tips Special Blend gets 4 out of 10.

Twinings Everyday Tea is certainly a tea fit for Steven Fry, wether its suitable for his builder as well is debatable. Indeed, it may not even be compleetly suitable for Fry either. In trying to capture a section of the market Twinings thought they were missing out on they seem to have pleased no-one.

Everyday Tea is a nice and refreshing tea, and certainly one of the best, but its a little more expensive than your standard ‘everyday teas’ and I’m not compleetly convinced that jump in price is justified for the change in taste you get. The long and the short of it is that Everyday Tea is the same variety of tea that you would normally get in something like PG Tips or Tetley, the only difference would be a slightly different blend, and possibly the quality of the leaves.

Don’t get me wrong, its a million miles from a Tesco Value tea, but the overall taste is simalar to that of Lancashire tea, or Tetley, and therefore doesn’t really justify the price hike, except for the Twinings name.

Twinings make the best speciality teas, and there is a reason for that. They have been working for hundereds of years as Britain’s, and probably the world’s, best tea blenders, They know how to make a great tasting specility tea, and make a lot of it. But they were left behind when making a ‘standard’ tea by more ‘populist’ brands. Therefore Everyday Tea lacks the definition of any other Twinings tea, but still has the name and the price tag.

Everyday Tea has a, slightly unremarkable, taste comparable to any of the major brands, but with a higher price, and a rather ugly coloured box that is the hardest to get in to tea box I have ever opened.

I would recomend sticking to a standard brand for a standard tea, Twinings is for special occasions only.

Twinings Everyday Tea gets 7 out of 10.
